Getting Started
The first step in creating your web site is to contact us through the "contact" link in the menu at the top of this page.
We'll help you figure out what you want, and give you a clear idea of what it will cost. There is no charge for making the estimate.
We can't quote you a price right now because we don't know what you want, but here's some information that might help you.
Web sites exist at a web hosting site. Web hosting has become a very competitive business so the prices are very reasonable. Unless your site is unusually large, you can expect to pay less than $100 per year for web hosting.
You will also need a domain name. This is just the name that people type in to get to your web site (you got here by typing, or clicking on a link to our domain name: unicornwebworks.com). Keeping a domain name registered costs less than $10 per year.
We can take care of registering your domain name and setting things up with the web hosting service. You might start thinking about a good domain name for your site (like YourCompany.com). Remember that someone may already own that domain name so try to think of some alternatives. If you have a name in mind, we can check to see if it is available. We do this as a courtesy to prospective customers, so there is no charge.
Our work is guaranteed. If you're not completely satisfied with our work. We'll refund any money you've paid for our services. Although we can't refund any money you've paid for domain registration or web hosting, you'll still own the domain name and can use the hosting service you've paid for.
If you'd like to create your own web site and do all the work of maintaining it, we can still help. For a reasonable fee, we can help you get the site set up and registered and can point you to resources that will help you learn how to create and maintain it.
Unfortunately, there is a lot to learn about having a professional web site. Users will visit your site using a wide variety of browsers. You want the site to look good in all possible browsers and making this happen is a lot harder than you might think.
It's possible to make a simple typo when working on changes to a web page and have the whole site suddenly look horrible. It can take hours to find the mistake and correct it. In addition, you want your web pages to look good at various screen resolutions on different computers. You also want the site to rank high with search engines like Google so users can find you by doing a web search.
You can definitely learn all of this on your own, but it's like fixing a modern automobile. When you consider the time and equipment necessary to do a good job, you're better off paying a professional to do it for you.
